Ok all,
Got what I think is a bug and I have no idea how long it may have been around. Basically, if my phone is unlocked i.e on my home screen and I get a call there is no way of knowing who has called me. Swiping just goes through the home screen icons. So no answer button etc. As it is rare to get a call when the phone is not locked this could have been around for years. When locked it acts normally. So, if anyone else has seen this have they found a way of finding out who is calling etc.

This happens on my iPhone SE 3 running iOS 18.7.7. When a call comes in, if you feel the very upper left corner, you can usually find the call info.
Why this happens is beyond me, but hopefully it helps you with future incoming calls.

Ye'h it is one of those unusual issues because as I say how often do people get calls when their phones are unlocked. Also happens in apps not just the home scree. Will keep an eye out if I get one again for your tip. Thanks Brian.

Yeah, I’ve definitely seen this on my iPhone 15 running iOS 26.4.1. Sometimes I end up like locking the phone and then just looking at the color that way going back into black screen the most but yeah it’s really weird. I have no idea how long it’s been around for. As he said, we really don’t get calls bring off and unlock screen. But yeah, I’ve definitely seen that I mean, granted I don’t have the newest phone but it’s you know anyone else to still keep getting software updates so now I’m sorry that I don’t really know a great solution for it though, but hopefully that will help cause I mean you do use the side button until you silence the ringer it may give you a chance not sure about that but yeah, I have an iPhone SE three as well but it’s not a phone that can receive calls anymore. It’s not my primary device. I use that as my media consumption device into browser website and re-emails like that so basically an iPod because I never had the opportunity to get one, but yeah.
You can fix this in settings
Hey there,
If you head over to Settings>Apps>Phone>In coming calls and switch that from bannor to full screen, this will revert to the way calls displayed before iOS 18 came out.
