Accessibility Comments

As of version 26.2.0 released on or about 2/24/26, VoiceOver accessibility is completely broken. Information is no longer read on the screens including key tabs like home, stays, account, etc. You cannot interact or access critical information about upcoming reservations, accessing change/cancel functions, perform check-in functions, access your account information or rewards, etc.

Prior to this version, many functions were accessible; although the app still had some rough edges in places.

However, this version introduces showstopper critical bugs that prevent users from performing critical and essential functions relating to managing their hotel stays and World of Hyatt loyalty account.

If you use the Apple VoiceOver screen recognition tool, you are able to read some functions in a rudimentary way, but you still are not able to access and interact with critical controls and functions relating to managing your account, booking and changing reservations, or managing an existing hotel stay.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads a few page elements.

Button Labeling

No buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

Some parts of the app are accessible with VoiceOver, but not enough to make it usable.

Other Comments

This is a critical app if you stay at Hyatt, and I cannot find any sort of accessibility policy or accessibility team contact on the Hyatt web site. I have used the app for several years and this is the worst VoiceOver degridation I have ever encountered.

Greetings:

I have found that you need to turn on VoiceOver Screen Recognition for this app. You do this through Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver Description, Screen Recognition.

Here are the steps you can execute to turn on VoiceOver Screen Recognition but only for the Hyatt app on your iPhone.

1. From the Home Page, ask Siri to “open VoiceOver Settings.” This will take you right into the settings that govern the behavior of VoiceOver.
2. Keep flicking to the right on the resulting page until you hear “VoiceOver Recognition.” Double tap with one finger on this item.
3. Now, flick right with one finger until VoiceOver says, “Screen Recognition.” This will be stated as being either on or off. You want this to be set to on. Regardless of the state of Screen Recognition here, you do want to perform a single-finger double-tap to activate this item.
4. On this next page, you are focused on a Screen Recognition button which says that it is either on or off. “Screen Recognition, Switch Button On,” is what you want to be the state of this button. If Off was the status spoken, double-tap the button to turn on Screen Recognition.
5. Flick right with one finger until you reach, “Apply to Apps.” Because I have Hyatt selected as the app where I actually want Screen Recognition to work, my iPhone says, “Apply to Apps, Hyatt button.” If your iPhone doesn’t say anything about Hyatt, you now need to double-tap this button to open yet another screen.
6. The resulting screen has a very long list of apps sorted in alphabetical order. Swipe up with three fingers a few times until you get to the aps whose names start with the letter h. Hyatt should be somewhere here. Find Hyatt and double-tap on it with one finger to ensure it is “selected.”
7. Now, go back into the Hyatt app to see if this fixes the problem. It did for me.

Curtis,
Thanks for the detailed write up on screen recognition for a specific app, and this is worth setting up for Hyatt in its current state.

While screen recognition does read some of the data from various screens, it does not allow you to access many types of transactions that one was previously able to access before this latest inaccessible version.

Example 1: Account
In the account tab of the appp, there is overview, past activity, and awards. You land on overview by default. However, even with screen recognition on, you cannot access the past activity or awards screen with in the account tab.

Example 2: Stays
I have not been able to modify a stay, check in to a stay, or cancel a stay.

Example 3: Booking a new reservation:
I have not been able to book a new reservation, not able to access all the fields.

I was able to do all these things prior to this version. Mind you they had some rough edges, but I was able to complete these transactions.

Right now I am only able to read a small subset of data in my account and reservations.

Thanks, Mika!
