Hello,
I got an iPhone 17 few months ago. There is a new button on the right side. I know it's using for pictures and visual intelligence. But what could it would be useful for a blind person? For now, I disabled it because it kept pressing it by accident. Are some of you find this button useful like the action button?
Best,
Olivier

Pictures
Is just for that. AI I setup the action button but never used it. Go figure. Have a nice case for 16 pro max and have no issues with the picture button. Long live cats.

Hi,
I believe you can program it to open applications, such as Be My Eyes. You can also adjust the button itself so that it requires a double press to activate, rather than a single press. That way an accidental press while holding the phone, say when making a phone call, won't activate anything on its own.
HTH. 🙂
Camera Button
I will say the one really useful thing I've found for the camera button is switching it to the code scanner, so you can easily scan QR codes. So much easier than telling Siri and her not listening.
customizing the camera button
I did investigate a bit and dig through the settings. I was trying to set it up so that when I press the camera button it would open Aira instead. Unfortunately you can't do this, it won't open Aira or Be My Eyes. The only app using the camera it allowed was Instagram.
A second action button
I did a little investigating as well, and it turns out you actually can do what I suggested above, I just did not realize it takes a little extra effort. Apologies for that. However, according to this SubReddit, you can turn the camera button into a second Action button on iPhone 16/17. Instructions are in the following link. Enjoy. 🙂
