Accessibility Comments

Seems really user-friendly and straightforward.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

It's quickly becoming my preferred choice for Chat GPT. It's remarkable how it can tackle current events and provide answers that almost resemble those of GPT-4, despite being built on the GPT-3.x platform. It's possible that the company has implemented some new techniques alongside GPT-3.x. I find it particularly satisfying to witness how it sources its information and identifies the specific parts of the answer. This feature gives me a greater sense of control over the information I wish to utilize.

I'm in Canada and I was able to download this app with no problems at all. Try again and see if you have better luck. It should definitely work in Canada.

When double tapping the "Ask a question by voice" button the VoiceOver speech and sound goes away, only the haptic feedbacks remain.

Maybe it's just me, but when I try to ask a question by voice, not with Apple's dictation, but with the built-in "Ask a Question by Voice" option, I get the silent treatment.

No VoiceOver speech, nothing.

I have to trigger Siri to get VoiceOver back up and talking again.

Sometimes that doesn't even work, so not only do I have to invoke Siri, but I also have to go to the home screen and toggle VoiceOver off and back on again before I can even get speech.

So, for me, using the built-in "Ask a Question by Voice" is useless.

Is that why you didn't demonstrate that in the podcast?

Edit: wrote this before I saw the previous comment

Thank you so much for this podcast Thomas this application, brings my AI experience to a whole Nother level, and is so much more quick with the answers than it ever was for me using Microsoft or open AI
I’m currently doing quite a bit of research so this is a very useful tool for me.
I also made the mistake of using the ask you a question by voice button and lost voice over audio. I went to the home screen, but could still not toggle voiceover on no matter what I did, so I needed to restart the phone. This should be fixed on the part of the app developer, but I don’t mind not using it, generally, I have found dictation to be better on the iPhone unless it is a recognition provided by google
I am in Canada as well, and did not click on the link in this post, but just search in the App Store myself, and found it without too much difficulty

I want to say thank you to everyone who pointed out that using the "Ask a Question by Voice" feature isn't suitable for VoiceOver users. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. I agree that it's a problem that needs to be fixed because it's hard to get out of that situation, and it's a warning to avoid using it.

that seems to be a bug in the app. Many apps that use the microphone also do the same thing, especially found that in certain recorder apps. There’s no real good workaround. I know it can be done, cause some record apps, allow voiceover to come through. The silent treatment also affects external Bluetooth connected devices.

I can echo what everyone else is experiencing it doesn't work for me either. the only workaround I have found is use the standard dictation and avoid using the ask a question by voice.

By kool_turk on Friday, July 14, 2023 - 02:43

The problem must be in the app itself because it works in the official Chat GPT app.

Voiceover comes through the phone speaker, but at least you don't get the silent treatment.

Curious, will they support GPT 4 soon? Just hope they will be able to have access to the latest version.

I recently noticed that I can no longer use Perplexity to find answers or information. When I type my question and press the up-arrow, I am presented with a page asking me to sign up for the Pro Version. I can't find any way of selecting the free version and when I select close, I am returned to my question.
I am running the latest version of Perplexity on an iPhone 15 Pro with IOS 26.5.
While this app has always been a bit of a challenge with respect to accessibility, it is now totally unusable for me. Has anyone else encountered this, and is there a work-around? I usually use Gemini or Copilot, but I used to really like Perplexity to verify some of the information provided by other Ai's.
Thanks

I barely used it in practice, so when my carrier's promotional offer ended and I was downgraded from Pro to Free, I just deleted my account. The app was never very nice—not really.

Back when I used to use Perplexity, it was actually good. The interface was clean, it was easy enough to use, and for a while I was even on the Pro plan.

Now, I’ll admit, I haven’t used it in quite some time. But I have been keeping up with what people have been saying about it on Reddit, and let’s just say, they’re not exactly saying nice things. They keep changing things around, and that’s one of the reasons I stopped using it.

It used to be good. Back when I was using it properly, they were using voices from ElevenLabs. Now I believe they either use their own voices, or they’ve switched to another provider. Whatever they’re using now, it’s not the same. The voice experience is worse, and when you dictate something into it, half your message gets mangled.

So I decided to leave them. Sorry, Perplexity. It’s not me this time, it’s you.

Until they improve, I won’t be going back.

I’d say the only good thing about Perplexity is that you supposedly get access to various AI models, even if that access is limited. At least, that’s the idea. However, I’ve seen people on Reddit claim that Perplexity might be doing a bit of a bait and switch. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but the claim is that even if it says it’s using Gemini, for example, it might quietly fall back to its own model if the selected model is too busy.

The problem is, if that’s happening, it doesn’t clearly tell you. It just quietly does it in the background and hopes you don’t notice. But people do notice. Once you’ve used different AI models for long enough, you start to recognise their writing styles. You can usually tell when something doesn’t feel like the model you selected.

It is what it is, I guess.

These days, I just use ChatGPT natively on the web. The iOS ChatGPT app is usable as well, although I do wish you could delete threads using the VoiceOver actions rotor. There was a time on iOS when you could do that. Perplexity also used to let you do that before they overhauled their interface. That overhaul was around the time things started going downhill for me.

So, no more Perplexity for me.

I think I still have the app on my phone, but I haven’t launched it in quite some time. They do add new AI models from time to time, which is a good thing, I suppose. They had DeepSeek for a while until they removed it for whatever strange reason. Then they added Kimi K2, or whatever it’s called, another AI model from China.

But I’m not signing up again just to test some shiny new model they’ve added. That was the old me.

Now I’ve found an AI that I actually like using, and I’m finding that ChatGPT’s dictation feature is much better than the others I’ve tried. For the most part, I can dictate into ChatGPT and get back a reasonably good response. It’s not perfect, especially if you speak too quickly, but it does the job well enough.

That said, if you’re going to use AI to help write a forum post, make sure you proofread it before posting. Don’t just accept whatever it spits out and throw it onto a forum. AI can help clean things up, but you still need to read it yourself and make sure it actually says what you wanted it to say.
