Freight Fate: cross-platform audio trucking game

Not sure which category to place this in; the app is cross platform. It's also my app so can't add it to the directories.

I am building an audio based trucking game. The last of this type we had was Jim Kitchen's Trucker, but my version has a lot more persistence. It also has physics and optional real-world weather.

It also has real-world route information across the 48 states that trucks can get to by roads in the United States (Alaska requires a detour through Canada being worked on for a future version).

You can play it as relaxed or as realistic as you want. unfortunately the macOS version only works on the latest Mac hardware right now (Arm/Sylicon).

I like this game, thanks for the Mac version.

Hope you can make the sounds more realistic.

Yes, coming in V1.9, next major version.

Have realistic sounds been introduced?
I have to mention how grateful I am to this game as I've always wanted a trucker simulation game before which is accessible. I was an avid player of the iconic Jim Kitchen's trucker game and have fond memmories of it from all those years ago.
Moreover, is there a user manual on the website? I know it's available when you launch it however I like having it handy in another window if I get stuck.

Not yet. Great game and addictive so for.

Can you actually introduce 3D navigation? Right now, it seems the truck automatically steers for me, and I want to do it all on my own, with audio earcons guiding me which way to turn. It feels a bit static currently, so may be road surfaces can differ a bit here and there, maintenence and what not. Further, passing trees, other vehicles, and other sounds can be added. Although then I might also want to crash my truck in to other vehicles.
It's a very limited simulator right now, a great v1, and has great potential.

As I type this post, I'm actually doing a delivery of groceries to New Mexico. I remember playing the Jim Kitchen truck simulator back on my windows xp machine. That game got very boring very fast. I felt you couldn't do much with it. This game offers a lot more in the user control department. I like how you face real world driving conditions, such as construction or change in weather. the real weather conditions are a nice touch.

Curves/turns are coming in the next major version, however actual 3D would be a major V2/V3 project. No audio game we've ever had has ever been actual 3D, even the ones that sound like it.

How about games like Survive the Wild?

By Orinks on Monday, August 3, 2026 - 11:37

Survive the Wild uses HRTF sound. It simulates 3D, which would be good enough in this case, just not willing to put that effort in at this stage right now. I'm experimenting with other projects in that lane for now.

Once added, could this be an option one turns on? Sometimes when I play, I would like to the game to handle turns for me and other times I am in the mood to turn myself.

You coul make turn by turn part of the relaxed setting. For those who want more realism, that could be set to default that you have to turn right or left if you had the game in real mode, or whatever its called. Sorry, but I've forgotten whenat that setting actually is.

So after hearing about the game and going ahead and downloading the ZIP file for Windows, the second I copied the folder onto my computer, Windows Defender kicked in with a possible virus alert.

Now, I am sure that the game is completely legit but was wondering if this was normal? I had asked Google Gemini about the game, and, taking what it says with a grain of sand, it mentioned something about the game being created using Python and that some virus are created using Python as well, and that Windows Defender could be mis-identifying the game as such. But then I asked it again a couple of weeks later and it has no idea what the game is, so go figure.

Like I said, I am sure the game is legitimate, but was curious if others also encountered this issue?

First off, I wouldn't trust Gemini. That's just a PSA from me.

Second, the app is unsigned, and MS requires me to pay them a ton of money to sign a free app; this is a hobby project. Add the Freight Fate folder to defender acceptions and you should be fine.
HTH.

Yup, I always take what AI's tell me with a grain of salt or sand, whatever the expression is.

As for the exception in Windows Defender, that's what I ended up doing anyway. I was just curious to know if Windows Defender being triggered was normal and if others had also encountered it.

I also get it, paying a large sum of money to have a free independant app signed is not worth it.

Thanks again for the app and looking forward to when Canada gets added into the map.
