Hi everyone,
I’m Mike. I've been a long-time lurker here and decided to finally make my first post. I wanted to give a shoutout to a new app called JustSee, released by my friend Kévin Derome (founder and developer behind the ICane at IEyes). If you haven't checked it out yet, the idea behind the app is: Describe, keep, remember.
Most of the vision apps we have right now are built strictly for the moment. They read a label or describe a room, and then the data is gone. JustSee actually organizes and stores the processed photos right on your device.
I realized how useful this is recently when I was looking through old family photos. For someone who is totally blind, old photos are basically locked boxes. I ran a few of these snapshots through JustSee, and it unpacked the intimate details of those family moments in a way that actually let me relive them independently, rather than just giving me a generic and robotic description.
As a web developer and former Apple Specialist myself, I’m pretty picky about how apps are built. Kévin got a few major technical things right that I think this community will appreciate: - Firstly, instead of a standard, sterile AI bot, the built-in assistant is a companion named ICo that you feed with treats to have it process and describe your images. Bringing a uniquely fun and interactive feel to daily tasks. - Moreover, facial recognition and identifying people happen entirely locally on-device, which is a massive win for privacy.
You can download the app using the following link. It is available world wide.
Knowing the care Kévin puts into thoughtful accessibility, it's an awesome tool. Has anyone else given JustSee a spin yet? I’d love to hear what you think of it and how the experience has been for you.
Best, Mike
