For those who use eloquence, what's your favorite voice?
I'm assuming everyone on here will say Reed because we're used to hearing it with JAWS. Right now I have Reed on my Mac but switched to Sandy on my iPhone.
In my watch 11 have him. However when I check in my phone under watch, accessibility, voiceover, speech, primary voice, samantha shows, I tried to select Evan but it does not take it yet watch voice is Evan when I tap watch. Long live cats.
I like these voices, as I tend to understand them just a touch better than the original Reid voice. So, when I'm working with code, I like Eddie on my iPhone, and Glenn on my Windows laptop using NVDA and IBMTTS.
I like Sandy/Bobby. The little kid Voice the one in voiceover that’s Sandy and Bobby. I’m like the Eddie/Glenn Voice, and then the Sandy/slow, Voice. I prefer British eloquence though, but mostly can’t Samantha. Guess those are vocal I would use if I were missing eloquence. I know you and Samantha are vocalizer voices, but those are the ones I use mostly. But you’ve got my favorite eloquent voices on there.
Evan is a vocal voice just FYI. Smiley face. It’s very strange that I wanted to show up in eloquence for you. My favorite eloquent spices are Eddie sand and flow voiceover. And Jaws they are Glenn, Bobby and Sandy. My last comment got a little messed up before I have to use dictation to write these comments.
OK, I had to use watch to add it. I rase the peach to sound better. Will see how long I keep it. Do not get why people like it. Sounds OK but nothing to write home about. Also Evan is not working well. When I went to select Reed Evan sounded better, I take it he did not want me to unselected. Long live cats.
I’m not sure about Apple watches as I don’t own one. But the ones that I’ve heard definitely seem to have like smaller speakers in the phone so the voice is in the watch is travel. I do sound a bit different. But Evan is from vocalizer so I’m not exactly sure why he would sound bad because there’s an enhanced version and a regular version so good luck with that, and I hope you find a good quality voice for your watch. And I agree with you cats are awesome.
I guess it’s something you’ll have to keep letting Apple know about. There is definitely a difference between the vocalizer voices in the phones versus the vocalizer voices in the computers. So I’m sure there must be a difference in the watches as well. I do think sometimes the speaker size and the kind of hardware that we have definitely does make a difference though. They’re also not the premium high voices. The ones that are called premium that we get now on their phones, I think are literally the old premium hybrid version that Jaws used to get vocalizer. They are definitely not the premium high voices that we have in Jaws now. You can tell if you listen to them side-by-side it’s totally different. I’m really hoping that someday we will have the hardware and processing power to be able to have the premium high voices for jaws that we have four jaws in the iPhones. Super for now I am just sticking with regular Karen on both of my phones and premium Healthcare on both of my computers. Yes, I have two laptops. I have run running window seven with Josh 2021 and Karen premium high. My other computer has Josh 2025 with Windows 10 and premium high. And then my two iPhones are you just using regular Karen. I feel like the smaller speakers of the phone seem to be better with the preinstalled voices and that they don’t do as well with enhanced to premium qualities so I have to keep a preinstalled Karen so she can’t be deleted or anything like we’ve had issues with some of our other higher quality voices being deleted before. I’m just tapping my favorite voices are preinstalled. Karen is my favorite. My second favorite is Samantha. Thankfully, Apple decided to pre-install both of those wishes.
The Rocko voice was updated sometime around the release of JAWS 4.5 in 2002. It now has a more muffled sound. Reed was updated as well from what I remember - it was ever so slightly more robotic prior to JAWS 4.5.
I remember those updates. I first started using jaws when it was version 3.3 in windows. It was weighed flow. And then in 1998 they did another upgrade to the voices themselves and that was when we switched to read and Shelley no longer had weight and flow. I think you’re right. I think that was like just for something. Yeah they’ve definitely made a lot of changes to Rocco’s voice and the read voice. My favorite ones would always be Bobby Glenn Andy, though. If that was a synthesizer, I still use that’s the voice I would use in it. I think we need more little kid voices because Bobby is super cute. If I were still using eloquence, it would definitely between between Bobby, Glenn, and Sandy. Although I honestly prefer the older Sandy Voice, but I don’t think we’ll ever get that back. It was a much softer Voice.

my favorite eloquence voice would be reed. I did like rocco, but cannot find the right balance either on IPhone and pc for jaws 4.02
