Apple Beta Releases

Good afternoon everyone,
In a bit of a surprise move today, Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 27.2 and related updates. They are skipping 27.1 for now, as that version of the software contains code references to the unreleased iPhone duo, which will be available on October 23. I know this because I just read it online. At first, like most of you will probably be, I was very confused, thinking they had skipped a version entirely.

If you experience a bug in Apple Beta Software, the most important thing you can do is to file a report in Feedback Assistant. Please do not assume that Apple is already aware of a bug or that your report won't make a difference; your report may provide crucial information, and submitting bug reports directly to Apple helps them reproduce and resolve the issue faster. The more reports they receive, the higher the priority Apple is likely to give to fixing the bug.

If you are using beta software, please use the Feedback Assistant on your device to submit feedback and bug reports. If you are using a public release, this blog post explains how to report the issue and what information to include.

I think it’s fixed the sound issues with voiceover. I’ve tried it on my ipad pro and it sounds normal, the equaliser also appears to be working. I haven’t tried it on the iphone as I’m upgrading and selling this so keeping it on official software. But I can confirm it seems to be working normal again on the ipad

Yes, the issue with the sound and equalizer has been fixed, and the tab buttons in the Phone app are also working properly.

Good afternoon everyone,
I have just updated my iPhone 16 Pro Max to the new iOS 27.2 beta and have a few quick observations:
One. The haptic you get when engaging Siri feels different. It’s not long and noticeable like it used to be. It’s now very short and subtle so you have to be paying attention to feel it.
Two, this is a welcome improvement, but you no longer get the message, “something went wrong “when trying to open an app. I just tried to open multiple and they all worked flawlessly.

By BlindFolk on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - 20:21

This beta is quite smooth. Voice over is no longer crackling, typing in BSI is fast, and to top it all Siri is very smooth. I think this beta is specifically meant to fix voice over bugs.

By danno5 on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - 23:00

This turned out to be more stable than the public release has, the iphone was updated in the end and I shall happily update the new iphone too. Its fixed basically all of my issues except maybe one. And I’m willing to do the beta of this and then chill on official if it stays this stable. Interested to hear all of your experiences too!!!

Thanks for posting. I'm done with betas for now so I will just wait until it comes out for the general public. It can't be long.

why is this 27.2 and not 27.1?

By TheBlindGuy07 on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 01:26

In reply to by ziixies

It should be even just 27 but it's literally 27.2 for all in feedback lmao. Even in the settings update page for both macos and ios it says 27.2. Fun. This is a beta guys. They can do whatever they want there idc.

By KE8UPE on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 01:33

The iOS 27.1 update holds code references which are part of the iPhone duo, which will be available starting October 23, so the update won’t be released until at least then, possibly the week before.

By ziixies on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 02:57

Can anyone tell me if they've upgraded to 27.2 on macOS if it randomly saying system has new window has been fixed or not?

By Tahir Ahmed on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 03:04

I have updated my iPhone 17 Pro two, iOS 27.2, the voice bug seems to be fixed, But now I have discovered a very serious bug, if you play any video on Safari or any other browser, as soon as the video is played, voice over loses its speech, and as soon as you stop the video, speech comes back, that means you cannot watch or listen to any video on browser with voice over turned on

By Tahir Ahmed on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 03:46

Before, I was running, iOS 27, had the voice quality issue, but did not have this problem on Safari while the video was being played, but on iOS 27.2, voice is fixed, now there is no speech while the video is played

By Dennis Long on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 04:20

First you need to use the Feedback app and file on it.
Second I tested it specifically on
www.youtube.com
I had no issues. I was able to navigate the screen and hear voiceover just fine.
Lets try something.
1 go to settings.
2 go to accessibility.
3 go to voiceover.
4 hit reset voiceover settings.
Note this will trash all custom settings you have done in Voiceover. However, it is the next logical step.

Pretty sure this is a bug considering it was in the list of bugs in 27.0.
hope it get's fixed for you guys who use the YouTube website

I have followed the steps you told me, I lost the all VoiceOver settings, I went on the Safari browser, went to different websites, played the videos, as soon as the video starts voice loses its speech, as soon as a video stop speech comes back, tomorrow, I am receiving my iPhone 18 Pro Max, hopefully that device will not have this issue, as I cannot go back to iOS 27

Are you running, iOS, 27.2?

By Dennis Long on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 05:25

Yes I am running iOS 27.2. This why I gave you the steps I did.

By Dennis Long on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 05:27

What device is this happening on? I have a 16 E with no issue.

By tunmi13 on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 05:36

So I was informed yesterday that on eReader models, as of iOS 27.2, the far left and right thumb keys are now Escape, and Activate. The inner ones still pan.
I'm hesitant to update, as I believe it now assumes they are joystick actions. Honestly for the longest time, I think iOS has always treated them that way, probably because that's how they were programmed on the unit itself. So naturally it calls it a D pad, specifically moving it left and right.
Is anyone having the same issue, whether it be an eReader or with another braille display?

By Quinton Williams on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 07:20

Hi all.
I'm so glad these voiceover issues are finally being addressed.
However, there are still a couple of persistent bugs along with a new one which I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing.
I notice my image descriptions sometimes stop, especially the "explore screen" action.
Additionally, the bug where voiceover reads emojis twice when using the rotor, the Samantha switches in certain text blocks and for the delete button on the emoji keyboard are also still here but here's hoping this is a continued step in the right direction.

By Quinton Williams on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 07:27

One more bug I've run into since joining the dev beta involves popup menus.
For example, whenever I finish typing a post on applevis specifically, voiceover activates the format menu when I simply focus the voiceover cursor on it or swipe past it.I know this isn't related to applevis itself,, but that's where I've been encountering it.

Hi all,
I use TGSpeechBox as my English TTS and another external synthesizer for russian and I noticed in iOS 27 that these synthesizers don't set any pauses as they should.
There is no such issue in Runa TTS.
Does anybody know if it is fixed in iOS 27.2?
Or it is synthesizers issue?
I already reported this to TGSpeechBox developer and russian synthesizer implementation's developer that I use.

I’m still having this one as well. Annoying haha, I’ve been having it since the first beta of iOS 27. But we do seem to be heading in a better direction so here’s hoping for the fixes to keep coming

By danno5 on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 07:52

The action again to clear all notifications is now working for me again. Progress. And hoping for more. I’ve been lucky kind of compared to a lot of people that I know with 27. Other than a couple of minor bugs now it’s actually starting to feel like one or the most stable versions I’ve used in years so I’m looking forward to the rest of 27 honestly

Is the diagnostics mode in recovery fixed?

By Kroni on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 07:58

I'm currently having a problem where the pronunciation dictionary isn't working for me. Can anyone tell me if this is being fixed in this update? Many thanks.

I am using iPhone 17 Pro, tomorrow I am receiving my iPhone 18 Pro Max, hopefully that device will not have this issue, as I watch cricket every day using the Safari browser, currently I am unable to watch my sports and use VoiceOver simultaneously

The bug occurs only when in safari. Whatever media file you play in safari, voice over speech gets turned off. Not a big deal for me, since I wouldn't want to hear notifications and other sounds coming from Voice over when listening to a podcast or video in safari.

Nah, my experience with AppleVis when typing is that, once finished typing, you get the options to format text, and an option to dismiss those pop-ups. It has always been there.

Finally, the single item mode in Safari / WebKit works once again as expected with the first beta of macOS 27.2.
Overall, the 27.2 betas work so well for me so I think this should have been the real final release instead of the 27.0 that we just got on Monday.

Just to clarify, it is not just happening on Safari web browser, I have tried multiple web browsers and different websites, no matter which website or which video you play, as you press the play button, speech disappears, as soon as you press the stop button, speech comes back, actually I play live cricket on Safari web browser, then get out of it, and then I go to a different app where I read the written commentary, which is currently not possible

By ziixies on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 11:23

In reply to by Tahir Ahmed

Does this occur if you turn speech off with focus on the play button.
So you
1. turn speech off when your voiceover is focused on the play button.
2. Double tap the play button.
3. Whilst the audio is playing try to turn speech back on and see if that helps.

I followed the steps you told me, focus on the play button, turn off the speech, click the play button, turned the speech back on, no speech, same issue

By TheBlindGuy07 on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 12:26

I know it's quite painful and tedious to do. But especially if you do beta testing, this does fix a lot of random things.
Example, on my iphone xs the swipe up with braille screen input screen away the vertical mode, it would not work anywhere to send message or anything. Even my iphone 14 when I got it I just let the data flow from the xs to the 14 and it was there. Then I reset 14 after 2 days and did all of my settings and apps again. And so much weird things were fixed.
I didn't know the samantha switch when reading text in edit field was known before 27.2 as I didn't notice it in 27, but glad to know that it's been reported.
There is still a slowness / delay, I get haptics and sound, then after a noticeable delay whatevr is under my finger, especially on youtube and instagram.

By Dennis Long on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 12:51

my suggestion to you is this:
1 set the new phone up as new.
2 don't restore anything from the iPhone 17 pro.
3 lets see what happens.

By Michael Hansen on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 12:53

Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team

The expected behavior on AppleVis is that the text format [dropdown/combo box] should not open unless a user specifically triggers it. In iOS 27, our experience was that when editing text, if focus was then placed on one of these [dropdowns/combo boxes], the menu would automatically open... Which is obviously not what we want.

I’ve run into a few strange VoiceOver issues that I wanted to share. First, for example, if I unlock the iPhone, swipe right to the Camera button, lock the phone, and then come back a few minutes later and unlock it, VoiceOver announces “Camera button” instead of the correct/current time. I’ve also noticed an issue with removing an app. For example, if I triple-tap an app entry and select “Remove App,” trying to swipe left or right afterward produces no VoiceOver feedback. Finally, there’s a strange behavior with American Express in the Wallet app. If I double-tap the American Express entry, VoiceOver announces “page one of one,” and then the dialogue closes after about a second. These behaviors are definitely frustrating when they happen. Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Hope is fix. It is getting in my nerve. Do people having issues with face ID? iOS 27, when I am in bed, face ID does not work. Had to put my passcode. Started with iOS 27. This was not an issue before. Thanks all good brave people for testing.

By Lee on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 13:21

I commented about this on the main iOS 27 thread. For some odd reason I'm being prompted to use my passkey way more than should be required. Nobody else seems to have had this so will be interested to see if this is fixed in 27.2. Again, some bugs are just individual I have no issues clearing notifications. Think that is why sometimes getting a fix is hard as it isn't uniform to all.

At least Face ID still works for me, even (1) when I’m in bed and (2) with Require Attention for Face ID and Attention Aware Features both switched on.

By Holger Fiallo on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 14:52

I turn it on and off and did restart. So far is working now. Hope it continues. It might be a bug for some.

By Alicia Krage on Thursday, September 17, 2026 - 19:57

It seems like you all are on the developer beta, which is cool. I'm waiting for the public one.

On the Developer beta, the Siri voices when used for VoiceOver are now speaking at the correct speed. We no longer have to speed them up.

By Peter Holdstock on Friday, September 18, 2026 - 11:39

I'm pleased to see the opening apps with Siri is now very fast. Previously, if you asked Siri to open an app, the Siri conversation would still be displayed at the top of the screen and it wasn't obvious that the app had opened. The Siri conversation had focus rather than the app just opened. However, now, as soon as Siri says it's open the app, the conversation has gone away and the app can be used as normal. The apps really do open fast.

It's really surprising that iOS 27.2 is out already. And anyone wishing to get the stable iOS 27.1 release, once available, will have to downgrade from iOS 27.2 (Developer Beta) to iOS 27.1 (stable).
